VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Senator Mark Obenshain today announced his support of Gary Byler for House of Delegates in the 85th District.

Senator Obenshain released the following statement:

“I have known Gary Byler for 35 years and am confident that he will work tirelessly for the residents of Virginia Beach and the 85th House District in the General Assembly. Gary will be a strong and effective legislator in Richmond and I am glad to add my voice to those supporting him for the House of Delegates.”

Senator Obenshain was nominated last week as the Republican’s candidate for Attorney General in the November election.

Byler graciously accepted the Attorney General Nominee’s Endorsement saying:

“Mark Obenshain is one of our party’s great conservative leaders, as he demonstrated through a spectacular victory at our nominating Convention. I’m excited and humbled to earn the support of Virginia’s next Attorney General and top law enforcement official, and eager to work with him in Richmond on behalf of Virginia Beach families.”

Byler was born and raised in the 85th District and his family has deep roots in the community. A University of Virginia graduate, who worked in the Reagan White House, Byler now runs his own law firm in the 85th District.

The 85th District encompasses much of the Bayside, Kempsville, Town Center and Tallwood neighborhoods of Virginia Beach.

Byler Scores Highest Rating from NRA

VIRGINIA BEACH – Republican candidate for Delegate Gary Byler today received an “AQ” rating from the National Rifle Association, the highest score possible for a candidate who has never held office.

Byler said the rating was earned through his rock-solid commitment to the 2nd Amendment, his long history of defending gun rights in the courtroom and years of personal and financial support of pro-2nd Amendment candidates for office.  Said Byler:

“I am very pleased that the NRA has recognized my many years of standing up for the 2nd Amendment.  Few liberties are as important as the right of every American to defend themselves and their family.  At a time when we are perilously close to losing our freedoms as citizens to a zealous minority of gun control advocates and rogue judges on the bench, we need leaders at every level of government who will fight back to protect our Constitution. As Delegate for the 85th district, I will vigorously and consistently defend our God-given right to self-defense.”

Retiring Del. Tata endorses Byler as replacement

April 22nd, 2013 by

Gary C. Byler has received the blessing of the man he hopes to replace in the General Assembly as representative of the Kempsville-based 85th House District in Virginia Beach.

Retiring Del. Bob Tata, a long serving Beach Republican, had endorsed Byler’s bid, his campaign announced Friday.

“For 30 years it has been an honor and a privilege to represent our home here in Virginia Beach in the General Assembly,” Tata said in a statement. “I can think of no one better to serve the families of our community than Gary Byler. He will be the trusted voice that we can count on.”

Reacting to the endorsement, Byler called Tata “one of the most respected men to serve the people of Virginia Beach in elected office,” adding that to get his support “is enormously humbling.”

Byler is an attorney and longtime GOP activist who worked for the Reagan White House and now serves as Republican 2nd Congressional District chairman.

He faces former Navy SEAL Scott Taylor and Regent University employee Jeremy Waters in a June 11 primary election to determine the GOP nominee.
